Pink Valentine's Smoothie that loves you back

I've made this smoothie as a Valentine's gift for my boyfriend David (ahhhhh....). I probably ought to get him a proper present too, but this'll be a good start!

David has a big sweet tooth, but hates coconut and pineapple - a constant challenge when you're trying to make healthy sweet recipes, coconut especially. Watching his face when I got him to try my turmeric smoothie the other day made me remember not all recipes are for everyone!

So this is for him. I'm hoping it'll be sweet enough for him to enjoy, stuffed with berries it's got a fantastic deep pink colour. Boys love pink.

And the 'loves you back' bit? Well I've picked ingredients that have some great health properties. February is still freezing cold here in the UK and the sniffles are proving hard to shift, so here's the run down on the reasons you want these ingredients in your system:

Blackberries - rich in Vitamin C and containing one of the highest levels of antioxidants in fruit, they're a fantastic addition to your diet for combating chronic disease

Beetroot - high in immune-boosting vitamin C, fiber, and minerals like potassium which is essential for healthy nerve and heart function (useful for all that cycling he does to and from work).

Flaxseeds - stuffed with omega-3 essential fatty acids, "good" fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects as well as being a great source of fibre.

Acai - great for Vitamin C but in addition acai is said to have been linked to overall increased blood circulation in the human body, "a phenomenon that may contribute to a boost in sex drive, especially for men." But I'm trying to get this verified from somewhere better than the website!

So rustle this one up for Valentine's Day, or any other day of the year for that matter! And make it for yourself: self-love is the first step to loving others better.
